Jonathan, that Texans team sounds amazing (and not that different from the current Texans, actually, a team that we Browns fans are very grateful for), and I'd love to see that NFL films movie, esp. if it has their usual, stenatorian narrator. Dave, I'm very curious about the Iraq film you mention. Another good movie I saw last week-- hairspray, extremely funny, knowing and enjoyable, and Christopher Walken is a dancing delight.Brian Doanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17903729233401672600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4883634507539657866.post-9936609487683352282007-11-27T10:35:00.000-05:002007-11-27T10:35:00.000-05:00Like jonathan, I'd avoided this one, but your revi...Like jonathan, I'd avoided this one, but your review here makes me want to see it.

Also, I have to recommend two films I've seen recently: _The TV Set_, a satire of the television industry, and _No End in Sight_, one of the best film treatments I've seen of Iraq to date.Anonymousnoreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4883634507539657866.post-90253169383949102152007-11-27T08:45:00.000-05:002007-11-27T08:45:00.000-05:00I didn't see this for two reasons, both being appr...I didn't see this for two reasons, both being apprehensions you have dispelled.

One, Matthew McConaughey is not a personal favorite. Despite liking movies he's been in he just bugs me in general but you have defined his persona here in a way that makes him seem endurable.

Two, I can't stand football movies. As you are aware I dearly love the sport but for whatever reason the movies concerning the sport seem to truly suck. But this sounds slightly different.

Now for me, if one has ever had the pleasure of seeing the old NFL Films piece on the Dallas Texans (the first team with that name, not the later one that became the Chiefs) of 1952, with running commentary by Art Donovan, who was unfortunate enough to be on the team, then one has already seen the best football movie ever made. Now if someone made a movie of that 1952 team (and did it right) I'd definitely buy a ticket.

Art Donovan: "We had one pass play for the offense, that was it. Everybody run as far down the field as they could and the quarterback throws the ball up as high as he can. If one of our guys catches it, terrific. If the other team catches it, aah who cares."Greghttps://www.blogger.com/profile/05730146625671701859noreply@blogger.com
