I expected this to be a race issue where the white person gets the slide and the black one gets thrown under the bus. I think it has to do profile had it been Issiah Thomas, or Pat Rilley saying this they would get massacred. Also in Fang's quote i don't see the same sort of anger and emotion put behind the words that is found in Winslow so it may not be as juicy a sound bite because of that.Stephenhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/07294144149366417326noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4883634507539657866.post-71890652108342648392008-03-16T18:15:00.000-04:002008-03-16T18:15:00.000-04:00Hey Bradley, That's a really good point: I"m sure ...Hey Bradley,<BR/> That's a really good point: I"m sure the size and prominence of the schools makes a difference. And Winslow didn't do himself any favors when he got in that bike accident a few years later (although he's since developed into a fine player for Cleveland). Still, I think that does suggest another layer to the double standards thing: I don't disagree with what you wrote, but do think that if media folks are going to get so morally outraged, they do so regardless of the school's visibility. Otherwise, it just looks like convenient carping, you know? If they have a bias, they should just admit the bias.Brian Doanhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/17903729233401672600noreply@blogger.comtag:blogger.com,1999:blog-4883634507539657866.post-78314338170235804232008-03-16T16:45:00.000-04:002008-03-16T16:45:00.000-04:00I think it's more about visibility. Ask Joe Sixpac...I think it's more about visibility. Ask Joe Sixpack what state Coppin State is in. In contrast, at the time Winslow went off, Miami was on top of the college football world, (though IIRC that loss was the beginning of the decline which lead to Larry Coker's firing). And Winslow had already built a reputation for trash talking, etc. There was no shortage of Miami haters ready to pounce on anything he said.cbdhttps://www.blogger.com/profile/04445447840373605938noreply@blogger.com
